Popular and controversial Nigerian internet sensation and activist, Very Dark Black has been in the news for close to a week now following his arrest and continued incarceration in the hands of the Nigerian police. While it is still not very clear who’s actually behind his arrest, as some said it was masterminded by Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh, while some claims his arrest was masterminded by some powerful forces in the police.
Well, be that as it may, it is pertinent to understand how the young man may have actually brought home the ant infested firewoods that has continued to hunt his life. While the young man may have been applauded for his good work of activism on social media abd beyond, especially by exposing some cosmetic products that are dangerous to human health, he equally made a lot of mistakes in the process.
While he may have had some running battles with some female personalities in the country, it is wise that he should have watched his words carefully. For instance, publicly accusing the top officers in the Nigerian police force of actually sleeping with popular Nigerian cross dresser and Transgender, Idris Okuneye better known as Bobrisky. That was actually an over statement, you can argue from now till eternity, but that’s what it is.
First of all, there’s no evidence anywhere to back up such a claims, and looking at a country like Nigeria, there are things you don’t just open mouth anyhow to vomit coz of the severe implications. Yes, someone once made it clear that, there’s freedom of speech in Nigeria, but your freedom after the speech is what is not guaranteed.
There’s no better way to have put aforementioned coz a lot of people are innocently languishing in cells, prisons and other detention facilities in this country as a result.
It didn’t just end there, he equally accused Nigerian politicians of doing same with the same Bobrisky. Forget about sentiments, is there any evidence anywhere to back up the claims? While Bobrisky may have desecrated the laws of the land in many ways, it is still not enough ground to repeatedly make such wild accusations.
Besides, at each time, he will actually dare the police to come for him if they think he’s lying or they should prove him wrong by arresting and prosecuting the said Bobrisky. No, that wasn’t the wisest approach to such matter, he was rather inviting more troubles for himself.
What happens to writing a petitions against Bobrisky to the police and to different government offices over the matter? What happened to dragging Bobrisky to court? All of these should have been the best approach to it, should he have dim it necessary to take up the fight with Bobrisky over his lifestyle and otherwise. And these are things to form evidences for him should he had done them before embarking on wild accusations.
Besides the instances we have mentioned, there are some other instances he actually did crossed the redline in his social media broadcasts. While you are doing your activism it is equally important you watch over your head, the aim is to trigger positive changes and not to sacrifice your life, coz you are an Activist and not a freedom fighter.
Looking at people like late Fela Kuti, Sowore, others, whatever thing they do, they have a backup to it; there do have their evidences, hence why you see the government finding hard all these years to prosecute person like Sowore, hence why they engage in persecution rather than prosecution.
Well, while we continue to pray and protest for your release from detention, it is equally important that you learn your lessons, always watch your words and know when you are actually going astray in the name of activism.
