A certain 29 year old Florida woman identified as Kayla Doody has reportedly abandoned her soon to be wife and rather settled for her maid of honour, and describing it as the best decision she has ever made.
The maid of honour is identified as 36 year old Erika. And this is coming just six months after Kayla had parted ways with her fiance.
According to the he Sun reports that Kayla explained that, growing up in Houston, Texas, she was bullied at school because of her appearance and quiet, quirky personality.
Also, that she even tried a lot of tricks just to get the attention of the opposite gender but none of those tricks worked. Hence forcing her to conclude that she wasn’t good for anyone, and low self esteem set in.
“I never felt like I fitted in. While I dated boys and even kissed a few girls to try to get attention from boys, none of it was serious. My self-esteem was so low that I didn’t think I was good enough to be loved by anyone,” Kayla said.
Then in September 2013, when she started schooling at a university in Houston, she met a guy named Harry, 18, though not his real name. Harry was shy and quiet like Kayla, they got along quickly and were friends for years, doing a lot of things together. Then in 2018 they became a couple.
Though she was cool with their union, she wasn’t really into Harry, especially when she compared her marriage with Harry to the marriages of some other of her friends. She revealed how some other female friends of hers were so passionate about their partners, but that was lacking completely in her case.
Then further, she said, “working as a personal trainer in December 2021, I became friends with a client, Dan (not his real name), and in November 2022 met his wife Erika. Within months, Erika and I were best friends, messaging daily and hanging out as a foursome with our partners“.
Then in February of 2023, she was out hiking when Harry went on his knee and proposed to her to marry him, with a beautiful ring.
She was stuck in the middle of confusion, but she went on to say yes to his marriage proposal. Shockingly, Kayla wasn’t too excited about marrying Harry, she only accepted as he was the only available option, and only felt trapped with Harry.
Then she had to contact her new friend, Erika to be part of their marriage plans, including being her maid of honour, which she gladly accepted. Then in late August, the duo were driving to a family party, when Erika opened up to her about her desire to share a kiss with her fellow woman.
She equally opened up how she realized that she was a gay and better that way, and promoted her (Erika) to seek for a divorce from her husband, Dan. Throughout that moment, Kayla confessed that she was thrown into confusion, and immediately realized she already has feelings for Erika, but she fought so hard to kill off the feelings.
From that moment onwards, things changed dramatically as they started making lots of flirty jokes with each other, which helped them build more feelings for each other.
“I made excuses not to be intimate with Harry. I realized I was in love – but not with my husband-to-be,” Kayla said as well.
Then in September of same year, she drove to visit Erika in her house while her partner, Dan, was obviously absent from home. He has been away for work for months. While she and Erika sat in the Sofa all alone watching a movie, then Erika kissed her lips,
“It felt magical. I didn’t feel guilty about Harry or Dan, all I could think about was Erika“.
“We slept together for the first time a week later, and I knew she was The One – and that I couldn’t possibly marry Harry in three weeks’ time“.
She summoned the courage and told Harry about it. He was shocked and angry. This was at a time Kayla and Harry had already fixed a date for their wedding, and had equally sent invites to friends and family.
Eventually she and Harry parted ways, even though she felt the guilt of hurting the innocent man in that manner, but she wasn’t going to look back as she made the best decision for herself.
She quickly sent out short messages to people, informing them that her wedding with Harry will no longer hold as planned. Surprisingly as well, Kayla revealed also that her mum was in support of her decision, and encouraged her to only follow her heart.
Prior to the date of their wedding that was cancelled, she felt nervous, unsettled and uncomfortable, but immediately the date came and went, she became relieved completely, and has to focus fully on her relationship with Erika.
“Now I was experiencing true love with Erika, I knew I should never have settled for companionship,” Kayla revealed after the wedding date came and gone.
Now the next mountain to climb is how Erika is going to break the news to her husband, Dan, when he returns from his months of work trip.
When Dan eventually returned in November, Erika told him about her relationship with Kayla and her intention for a divorce. Though Dan was completely devastated at the news, but had to agree to their separations.
On her part, it wasn’t that easy for Erika to move on with her life aside Dan, whom she had met and married at a young age, and has lived peacefully and happily with Dan for years, before Kayla’s chapter opened in her life.
She and Dan met during their university days, she was 22, the qualities she found in Dan like him being kind, handsome and otherwise attracted him to her. Hence their marriage in December 2012 after he had proposed in April 2011. For years they lived happily as a couple coz of how much they loved each other.
But according to her account of events, immediately her path and that of Kayla crossed in 2021, things weren’t ever the same again, even though all she wanted was just being friends together, but she couldn’t control how things turned out to be afterwards.
Erika even revealed that while Harry and Kayla were planning to get married, especially during their proposal in January 2023, when she was invited to help them with the planning, that she was crushing on Kayla, and became jealous as she helped Kayla plan her wedding.
“My jealousy grew as I helped plan her wedding. When Kayla tried on her dress, she looked so beautiful I had to control my face, worried she would see how I really felt,” she said.
“Then, that August, I got very drunk and kissed a woman. It felt like I was meeting myself for the first time. I knew I was gay and my marriage had to end. I was so nervous telling Kayla, but after that, the spark between us was undeniable.”
Then Kayla stated that once she, Erika, informed Harry about her love interest in his fiancee, and equally told her own Dan, and the eventual cancellation of their already fixed wedding, that she felt a breathe of fresh air. And though she wouldn’t want to hurt Dan, but she already made up her mind to walk the path with Kayla.
Kayla said: “Once she told Harry and cancelled their wedding, and I told Dan, I felt like I could breathe again. I never wanted to hurt Dan, but I couldn’t live a lie. Two months later, we were divorced”.
Then some time in January of same year, Erika had finalized her divorce with Dan, and went on to immediately proposed to Kayla, who without hesitation said a loud “YES“.
Then by April they are married after tying the knot, with about sixty (60) family and friends present to witness the memorable moments. She says their wedding venue was filled with flowers that gave her so much of joy and happiness.
Then Kayla added, “exchanging vows, I knew I was marrying my soulmate. I had no regrets, we were meant to be“.
They currently live in Florida, United States of America, and are planning to have IVF to have their kids as they journey into a new marriage adventure, with Kayla already working on a book, a memoir that will capture her life’s journey so far, especially with the love of her life, Erika.
