Celine Dion and Rene Agelil met when she was just 12 years old in 1980, though he was basically interested in her singing talents, and subsequently began managing her and signed her as well. Rene on his part was 38 years old then.
He was a music producer and talent manager, but couldn’t afford the funds to sponsor Celine Dion’s talent to the standard he had envisioned for the level of talent he saw in her.
As such, the following year (1981), after they had met, he mortgaged his house just to raise the money to fund Celine Dion’s first Music album. It actually paid off as the album became a huge success.
Her first album was in French, because she didn’t understand English language then, this was because she was born in Quebec, which is a French speaking part of Canada. Worried by her inability to understand the English language, he enrolled her into English language classes.
His target was to ensure that she broke into the global market, especially the US market, and she ended becoming proficient in speaking the English language. Which eventually paid off as well, as she was signed by Music giant, Epic Records, and went on to release her first ever English music album in 1993.
Rene Agelil continued building and investing in her career until she became a global music star. Though reports has it that they became attracted to each other along the line, but Rene avoided any romantic dealings with her coz of her age. There’s even a report that he turned down kisses offered to him from Celine Dion during that period.
While being her manager, they later turned their relationship into a romantic one, and that was when she turned 19 years old. They eventually got married in 1994. He was diagnosed with cancer up to three times, though he eventually died of cancer in 2016, after 22 years of marriage, and with three kids together.
Celine Dion had to cancel several personal and career engagements severally, including concerts coz of his health condition, precisely cancer. That was how much she valued her husband and marriage, regardless of her overwhelming Success and global fame.
