South Korean music star and a member of the popular musical band BTS has finally began his mandatory military service in his home country of South Korea. Known on the stage as Suga, but his real name is Min Yoon-gi, announced via his official social media handle that he has began his country’s compulsory military service.

Meanwhile, the rapper, songwriter and record producer has now become the third member of the South Boy bands BTS that has now gone for the compulsory military service, of which the other two are Jin and J-Hope.

On the other hand, there has been this rumour for quite sometime now, claiming that the South Korean government is planning to give waivers to members of the BTS group to be exempted from the country’s compulsory military service. This is said to be because indirectly, the group members have been serving the country with the millions of dollars they have been attracting home from their career. Unfortunately, this didn’t turn out to be true.

Though prior to the commencement of the military service by members of the music group, they had sometime in October 2022, announced that they will be available for the service. Meanwhile, the essence of this compulsory military service is for the fact that their country is still technically at war with North Korea.

Hence the reason all the able-bodied/physically fit men in the country, who are equally up to the stipulated age of 28, are mandated by law to partake in the compulsory military service for a period of 18-20 months. Eligible South Korean citizens are either to serve in the Army, Navy or Air force.
