Nigerians laments the shocking hike in the price of the Nigerian passports by the Government…

The Federal Government of Nigeria has once again increased the fee for the Nigerian passport and will take effect from 1st of September 2024.

“As part of its efforts to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport, the Federal Government has approved an upward review of the fees for the Passport, effective from September 1, 2024,” part of the statement released reads.

This was made known in a signed statement released via the X account of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, through its Spokesperson, Kenneth Udo. The news was broken via their X handle late Wednesday August 21, around 10pm.

Following the increments, the 32 page passport of five (5) validity which previously goes for 35,000 will be 50,000 in the new price. On the other hand, the 64 page passport of 10 years validity period which was 50,000, will go for 100,000 in the new price regime.

“Based on the review, a 32-page Passport booklet with 5-year validity previously charged at Thirty-five Thousand Naira (N35,000.00) will now be Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000.00) only.

While a 64-page Passport booklet with 10-year validity which was Seventy Thousand Naira (N70,000.00) will be One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000.00) only,” the statement continued.

According to the statement, the hike in prices of the Nigerian passport is aimed at ensuring quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport.

While the Nigeria Immigration Service regrets any inconvenience this increase might cause prospective applicants, it assures Nigerians of unwavering commitment to transparency and quality service delivery at all times.”
