Sen. Ngwu Commends President Tinubu for Signing Southeast Development Commission Bill

In a bid to enlarge the coast of growth and development of infrastructure and economy of the Southeast geo-political zone of Nigeria, and reduce to the bearest minimum, insecurity and violence in the region.

Meanwhile, the Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial district and Senate Minority Whip of the 10th National Assembly, Sen. Osita Ngwu has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the general commander of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, following his approval of the Southeast Development Commission Bill (SEDC) and signing into law of the bill.

The Senator said that the commission coming to limelight will serve as a channel and medium for massive and diversified growth and development in the region.

He pointed out the importance of the commission in tackling the challenges facing the good people of Southeast which include mal-infrastructure, economic decay and deficits, unemployment, insecurity, amongst others.

He also said that SEDC will serve as an outlet to bring to solution some issues that ignite voices of marginalization and agitation in the region.

The Lawmaker urged all the constituents and stakeholders in the region to rally round the commission and put hands on desk together to ensure that the major goals and objectives of establishing the commission are realized and achieved.

He commended all the lawmakers especially the Senate President, His Excellency Sen. Godswill Akpabio and the Deputy Speaker House of Representative, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, and people that pushed the bill and made sure it sailed through, at the end.

Recall that many years back, a call for the establishment of the commission started.

During the 8th Senate, the bill was passed by the Senate but failed to assent on by the then President, His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari.

But last year, the bill was reintroduced in the green chamber by Rt. Hon Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker and some other lawmakers from the Southeast region.

Late last year, the lower chamber passed the bill and transmitted it to the red chamber, which Sen. Ngwu from the Southeast region who helped immensely, is the Chief Minority Whip, for conjunction.

Early this week, the bill was signed into law by the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in Abuja.
