The unfortunate story of Nollywood actress, Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin is not new to most of us, as her story has practically remained in the news since her arrest in February last year, 2023, for spraying and stepping on the then newly redesigned Naira notes at an event in Lagos.
Many people have continued to wonder why her case is different from many other Nigerians who have been seen in same act. But that question has continued to beg for an answer. But let’s give you the real gist concerning this very matter.
Be it known that this article is not in anyway throwing weight behind lawlessness of any form. But the truth remains that Nollywood actress, Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin is just a scapegoat, who found herself in a mysterious web, yet beyond her strength. She’s into this predicament not necessarily because she broke the country’s law, but a victim of circumstance. Yes, because on daily basis, we come across such scenario of people spraying the precious Naira notes and equally stepping on the notes at different events, occasions, places, etc, and heaven hasn’t fallen since then till this very moment.
Know it now, that this actress might have possibly gotten into the bad books of one “Oga at Top” and as such, want to deal with her without an atom of mercy. Yes, there’s a law which she broke, but thousands of others have done same, and are still doing it, why haven’t they been arrested, arraigned and convicted just like this actress. Even, in some of the video clips you see such, you will see security agents littered all over the place and nothing happens in the end. I don’t want to start mentioning names of events involving big names in the country, were such has repeatedly happened and nothing happened.
I will tell you for free, Oluwadarasimi is just a victim of circumstance, were either they want to prove a point, or that she offended one “Oga at the Top” and as such, she must pay dearly. And without mincing words, I go with the latter point, because that’s what many people go through in this part of the world, ask many university students, especially the female, what they go through in the course of their academic pursuit in the hands of lecturers especially. That’s exactly what this actress is facing!
If I’m to be proven wrong in whatever way, then let’s the bodies charged with such responsibilities embark on a massive arrest and arraignment of anyone caught in same act, even if it’s the President, a governor, senator, business mogul, etc, that is caught in the same act, let he or she, face the music. Only at that will I retract my statement on this matter, else, it is nothing but the truth, and I’m unapologetic over what I said as it stands.
Funny enough , this things are not done in the secret or hidden places, that will result into the argument that the culprits are not known. Even, the culprits themselves video the act and upload on social media platforms, as such, making it easy for them to be traced and apprehended. But no, they cannot be apprehended because they are above the law itself and are not the bush meat being hunted. Which is the same reason why two persons will break a traffic law at the same scene, but only one of them will be arrested or accousted by the security agents or others.
But be that as it may, I urge all Nigerians, including myself writing this piece, to imbibe the spirit and habit of law abiding into our blood system. Learn to respect and obey the laws, whether you are being watched or not, and regardless of how you weigh such law(s). And finally, government should stop giving people reason to be lawless, because if Mr. A breaks the law and gets away with it because he has a G Wagon, then tomorrow Mr. B will do everything he can to match up, and the circle of lawlessness keeps growing.
Finally, we sympatgetize with Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin, this is a subtle reminder that our laws are very much like the Spider’s web which catches up with the weak and get thorn by the rich and powerful in our society!
