The entire country is literally mourning the unfortunate death of popular Nollywood actor, Junior Pope Odonwodo. Recall that the actor and some of his colleagues lost his their lives during a boat mishap on Wednesday April 10, 2024, while filming in Asaba, Delta State.
Well, a lot of blame games have been ongoing since the ugly incident happened, with many blaming the Executive Producer of the said movie, Adanma Luke Ozuligbo for not providing necessary safety gadgets for those filming for her, some others said the river wasn’t appeased, amongst several postulations over the incident.
Now, according to the viral video made by one of the survivor, TC Okafor, popularly known as TC Virus, the boat driver was not actually concentrating, as he was concerned in appearing in the video being done by Junior Pope during their journey. And it was in that process that their boat collided with a canoe that resulted in the capsizing of their boat.
So, while blaming the producer for not providing necessary safety gadgets, then the deceased has blames as well, because if not for the video he was doing, the boat driver would have had full concentration, and he would have seen the canoe on time. Yes, because TC Okafor clearly stated in his video that the driver was more interested in appearing in Junior Pope’s video, hence not concentrating on his driving.
On the other hand, TC has been blamed by the Producer, the Boat driver and some others for obstructing the view of the boat driver while standing during the trip, hence why he couldn’t see the canoe on time.
Equally, I do not want to join others in blaming the Executive Producer, Adanma Luke Ozuligbo for not providing life jackets for them. Yes, at his level of education and exposure in life, there are certain practices that Junior Pope shouldn’t subject himself to, under no circumstance.
If there’s no provision of safety gadgets for him and others, he should have declined getting onboard that boat, and I bet you, it would have been provided as quick as possible. Even, if he was given his own life jacket and others were not given, he stands a good position to insist it was given to others, and I can assure you that it would be done.
But since short cuts has become part of our blood system, we don’t care and the danger and consequences are often not far from us. Mark my words, this same thing or similar will still happen, I mean cutting corners, and you will be surprised to find the level and status of those involved.
It just so unfortunate that this has happened, but we must learn bitter lessons from it. Without mincing words, this is just a careless death. Besides most of these actors are too fanatical about videos, they video everything, and it has become a part of their system.
It’s just so unfortunate, really sad. May the souls of those who died in this unfortunate incident continue to rest in peace, Amen.
