When it comes to traditional marriage rites in Africa, it has always been a long and unending conversation, basically because of the contents of most of the marriage rites in several parts of the African society, most especially in Nigeria.
There’s this trending photos from the venue of a tradition marriage ceremony in the South Eastern part of Nigeria, and the items on display has left people wondering if the family of the girl (bride) is selling their daughter outright to the groom and his family.
This has once again triggered the same conversation on why most people task their in-laws to the point it does look like they are actually selling their daughter in the name of marriage.
It has become a tradition in this part of the world were many families now see marriage as their only escape route out of poverty. They heap all their family problems on their in-law (groom), tasking him to the point the groom may be left with nothing to take care of his wife at the end of performing the traditional marriage rites.
While those who are blessed with wealth may not feel the burden of such crazy marriage rites, while the story is not the same for those on the other side of life.
Unfortunately, these people are not even concerned about the economic situation in the country, all they are after is ensuring their potential in-laws go through hell in the name of marriage. You can imagine what this young man in this photos must have gone through in providing these marriage rites.
