In politics, no permanent friend and no permanent enemy, just permanent interest, and that best defines the type of politicians we have in this part of the world…
Yes, once their interest is well protected, then the government of the day is performing wonders, and when it goes the other way, it then means the government has failed.
We call them political bigots and political jobbers. They are only gallivanting around the corridors of power simply because of what they stand to gain, and not what the people will gain.
Let’s talk this present regime as a case study. Person like Daniel Bwala, he worked tirelessly with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar during the 2023 presidential election. He said a lot of damning things about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the election.
But immediately Atiku didn’t win, next thing he switches to Tinubu. And since then, it’s been Tinubu’s praises on his lips.
Same with Reno Omokri, man has never said anything bad about the present Government till date, even if all Nigerians are going through hell, he won’t say anything bad about the present Government.
He too is desperately out to secure his own bag, especially as he has been outside the corridors of powers since after serving under Jonathan. Possibly to get a soft landing when he visits Nigeria as he has been on exile since the regime of Buhari or be given a position in the current government.
It was same Reno Omokri who has praised Peter Obi to high heavens, and same him without provocation from same Peter Obi, launched a politically motivated campaign of character assassination against same Peter Obi. Ask him what has really changed about Obi, he won’t come up with anything reasonable. It is just their trademark political hustle antics.
Professor Wole Soyinka has always been a strong critic of government in this country, even from the era of the military. But because of his affiliation with President Tinubu’s regime, our Prof has since gone underground, even as he has been in the news often, none of these times did he say a single bad thing about the current regime.
And the current government has been rewarding him heavily for that, we have seen a couple of kind gestures extended to him by the present regime. At least the National Theatre has been named after him.
Take a look at Doyin Okupe who worked with Peter Obi during the last Presidential election, and now he has become lover of the present regime. Praising every damn moves of the regime.
Funny enough, give them few months, once the government refuses to put something in their car boot, then they suddenly become a friend of the masses only again, just to use them to secure their selfish bargains.
Mind you, the people mentioned here are not even up to 1% of the numbers of politicians involved in this trade in this country. We have them in thousands, from Federal, to state, to LGAs and wards, playing different political cards just to secure their own bag at the detriment of the poor Nigerians.
Today they are acting like they care about the progress of the country, tomorrow they are on the other divide, dinning and winning with the people they claiming to be fighting yesterday.
Since Femi Fani Kayode, FFK, crossed over to the ruling party in 2023, have you seen him talk bad about the current government, in spite the worsening economic hardship in the country. He was among those ensuring that Jonathan, Buhari, etc, never had a peaceful night rest during their regimes.
Now, he has become a dove, no more words. Tomorrow when the government he’s supporting today fails to look his way, then he returns to the people, staging all sorts of antics in the name of fighting for the people. Once he is settled and given a seat in the regime, he stops and that ends his agitation and activism for the people.
Not only a case with politicians, including religious leaders as well; they all are in the same Whatsapp group. Throughout the time Professor Yemi Osinbajo was the vice president, did you hear Pastor Adeboye come out to criticize the regime of former President Buhari?
Even when the blind knew that the country got worse under that regime, of which even some of those who served under the government have since come out to attest to that, but you won’t hear a single bad word from these people at that time.
But he was very active during the Jonathan regime. Then you ask yourself, what really changed in the system that has made them stopped attacking the government, nothing. Just that they have been accommodated one or the other in the regime.
Just look at how all of them are fighting night and day, to forestall the planned nationwide protest. Same people who were actively in the heart of same/similar protests in the past.
But because they have been accommodated by the current government, then such has suddenly become an abomination unto the land. Should it be that they are outside the government, you would have seen how they would have been fueling the protest.
My people, do not be fooled by their trademark antics, they are just your regular hustlers out there to secure the bag. You only hear their voices when they are locked outside, but once the door is opened to them, all their noises immediately seize to exist.
