In spite the political turmoil, hardship, insecurities, hunger and economic woes plaguing our country, some other of our compatriots are bringing honour to the country across the world.
Well, one of the them is one of Nigeria’s athletes at the ongoing Olympic games in Paris, France, in the person of Favour Ofili. Yesterday Monday August 4, 2024, she became the first Nigerian woman to reach the Olympics finals in the 200 metres (200m) category, in 28 years.
Meanwhile, the last time a Nigerian made it to the women’s 200m finals was at Atlanta 96, when Mary Onyali won a Bronze medal, and surprisingly, Favour Ofili wasn’t born yet at the time.
Ahead of tonight’s much anticipated 200m final in the women category, Favour Ofili has been drawn in Lane 9. And the final game will take place by 8:40 pm, and we can’t wait to see our darling Favour to clinch the Gold medal for the country.
Unfortunately, she couldn’t participate in the women’s 100m race because of the carelessness of the Nigerian authorities in charge. They failed to register her, hence why she’s not eligible to participate in the race. One of the sad realities of our existence in this part of the world!
