Yes, it is your data but you now have limited freedom over your MTN data…
Telecommunication giant, MTN Nigeria has come up with a new law on the gifting of MTN browsing/mobile data with family and friends. And I do not think many of its customers will be happy over this.
With effective from Friday October 11, 2024, you will be limited to just ten (10) slots of data sharing/gifting to family and friends, or any other choice of yours in a month. In other words, the maximum amount of data you are eligible to gift in a day is 5GB.
In a broadcast message sent across to MTN users in the afternoon of Friday October 11, it reads, “Dear customer, an update has been made to MTN data transfer service, effective 11th October 2024 you will have a maximum of 10 Data shares in a month“.
Then a visit to their official website confirmed the authenticity of the broadcast message.
In other words, no matter the amount data you are sharing, once you have done it up to ten times, then you have reached your maximum for that month, and will wait till the end of that month to be eligible to gift data again.
The message did not explain if same applies to those being gifted the data, if the ten slot maximum will be applicable to the receiver.
Well, I do not like this their new regulation, people should be allowed to do whatever they like with their data.
This should rather be applicable to data or airtime bonuses from MTN, but once it is the one bought by customers with their hard earned money, they should be allowed to do whatever they wish with it, as long as it is within the law.
Besides, there shouldn’t be limits to how many times customers can share their data or airtime, to allow those who want to do data business the opportunity to do so.
