JUST IN: President Tinubu Finally Signs The Bill To Revert To Old National Anthem Into Law.

News reaching our desk indicates that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has finally signed the controversial bill seeking to revert to the old national anthem into law.

According to Premium Times, the President accented to the bill earlier today Wednesday May 29, 2024, as part of the requisite constitutional requirements to make it a law across the country.

This was revealed by the President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, during the joint session of the Nigeria lawmakers, comprising both the Senate and the House of Representatives, in Abuja on Wednesday May 29.

It was equally reported that while the President arrived at the joint session of the both chambers, that it was the old national anthem that was sung upon his entrance.

Meanwhile, this controversial bill in question has since last week caused serious uproar across the country, with many questioning the importance of such bill at a time the country is going through a lot, especially economic hardship and worsening security situation in the country.

The said old national anthem was adopted in October 1960, during the country’s first independence anniversary, but later changed in 1978 by the then military regime of Olusegun Obasanjo.

The Senate passed the bill on Tuesday of last week, while the House of Representatives followed suit on Thursday of same week.
