Lots of Great destinies, talents and potentials have been sent to early graves simply because their owners walked the wrong lane of life.

I have been a great advocate of marrying well, especially looking at the story of popular Nigerian Female singers, J’odie, Soty and late Osinachi Nwachukwu of Ekwueme gospel song.

Well, I recently stumbled on the story of veteran Nollywood actor, Richard Mofe-Damijo, RMD, how the young man benefited so much from marrying well.

When RMD came to Lagos State from Warri, he was practically a nobody and wouldn’t have seen himself to be such a big name he has become today. This was prior to when his path crossed with his destiny helper, the late May Ellen Ezekiel, MEE, of the famous Classique magazine.

May Ellen Ezekiel was such a wealthy woman, and the then owner and publisher of Classique magazine, a celebrity and entertainment journal back then, though unfortunately has gone moribund today.

She was so rich that even the almighty Dele Momodu of the famous Ovation Magazine used to be her staff. Meanwhile, RMD had walked into her office during a job hunt, while he arrived Lagos from Warri, Delta State.

Yes, RMD was such a charming handsome young man then, and no wonder she fell for his charms almost immediately she set eyes on him. She was mesmerized by RMD’s look, charisma, great potentials and more.

While you may not know, it was actually May Ellen Ezekial that fell for RMD, made all the necessary moves to get them together, including asking for a date after the interview that brought RMD to her office.

That how they began, and equally marked the beginning of the actor’s journey to greatness. She picked him up from the lowest side of life to the very enviable lofty height of life. In fact, many have said that, without her in his life, RMD wouldn’t have reached were he’s today, and I totally agree to that.

As a young man or woman, yet to walk into the precarious world of marriage, it is very important you understand and embrace the idea of marrying well, and stop fooling yourself in the name of love that won’t help your life in anyway, especially coming from an economically disadvantaged family background.

Let me tell you, whether you like it or not, who you marry will eventually play a huge role in how you end up in life. J’odie and Soty would have been at the peak of their music career today if they had married well. But because of who they married, you saw how their once booming music career ended.

This was a great woman whom God brought into RMD’s way, and helped brought out the gift bestowed in him. She had worked with NTA and with the famous Sunday Concord, under the tutelage of the great Dele Giwa of the blessed memory, who was equally her destiny helper according to history.

Though their love and marriage was shortlived, between 1989 to 1996, when May Ellen Ezekiel died, but it was a few years that shaped his life for a many years of greatness ahead. It is not about how many years, but the quality of the few years together, and that’s what RMD has benefited from.

Mind you, I’m not saying he wouldn’t have been a great man, but it may not have happened this fast, and may not have equally reached that great height as well.

Born in 1956, she died at the age of 39 in 1996, following complications from a fibroid operation. After her death, RMD later got married to a TV personality, Jumobi Adegbesan.
