The news of the death of veteran Nollywood actor, Amaechi Mounagor came as a huge shock to millions of people, even beyond the shores of Nigeria. The news which broke out Sunday evening, March 24, 2024, was the least expected misfortune to befell the beautiful Sunday.

Well, few days ago, we all watched the video made by popular Nollywood actor, Kingsley Orji otherwise known as Egbeigwe, showing Amaechi Mounagor in a critical and pathetic health condition, begging for help. Frankly, I shaded tears, my heart was broken into pieces. You will know what moved many people to began donating to him instantly.

Now, this is a man whose life was spent building Nollywood, yes, because he’s one of the names that actually made Nollywood what it is today. But look at how he was treated, abandoned and rejected by his colleagues, and to make matter worse, by even the body that call itself Actor’s Guild of Nigeria, AGN.

They are often on social media platforms making empty promises, deceiving people that they have done this and that, whereas most of the things they say are lies from the pit of hell. In spite all the public outcrys and pleas from persons who are not even AGN members, for people to help Amaechi, what concrete help did the so called AGN render to him?

Imagine how they even started tackling Kingsley Orji for the video of the deceased he posted online, begging people to come to Amaechi’s aid. That was when AGN remembered that they are in existence with regards to Amaechi’s health condition. They labelled Kingsley Orji all sorts of names, accusing him of trying to make money for himself using the ailing actor’s health condition – you can imagine that!

They will not help as a body, they will still not allow those willing to carry the cross on individual capacity. They will attack you, insult you, accuse you of all sorts of things, to the extent that if you are not mentally prepared for the war with them, you will immediately back off.

Even the whole of the late actor, few days ago, confirmed via a phone call with Kingsley Orji, that they have not received any sort of help from the so called AGN. Besides, is it not appalling that at this stage and era, a professional body like AGN do not have a well structured and funded health insurance scheme and packages for its members?

It has always been members of the public who often come to help ailing members of AGN, while they are only good at doing “boy boy” for politicians and co. Now, this same thing is what you should expect and no changes, yes, because it’s their line of tradition. How many times have you even seen them visit these their ailing members? It is only social media platforms they go about ranting, lying and deceiving gullible members of the public.

In recent times, we saw it played out in Mr. Ibu’s case, now in Amaechi Mounagor’s case, and we hear that another veteran actor, Zack Orji is down as well. What have AGN done about it so far? There’s equally Remmy Ohajianya, and several others. What have AGN done about their health predicaments so far? It is only to run after politicians, during and after political elections that you will see them play active and vital roles.

While attacking Egbeigwe, they claimed to have health insurance scheme, yet their members have continued to languish on their sick beds, crying as much as they can, for financial assistance to enable them take care of their health. Yet AGN claims to have health insurance scheme for its members. Isn’t this really laughable?

Sometimes they come up with the defense that these actors were working for themselves during their active days, as such, they failed to plan well for the future. Where as they fail to understand that these actors are like farmers, yes, you can say a farmer is making money from his harvests, but he’s in turn feeding people.

So it’s a trade by barter system; while they are acting and earning, they are equally contributing beyond measures, to the growth and development of the industry. In other words, they do not deserve to be treated like bag of wastes with no more needed value or importance. And that was exactly how most of their members were treated in the face of their health and other predicaments.

Meanwhile, wait for them at the burial ceremonies, that’s where they come to show that the deceased was their active member. You see them taking pictures up and down, flooding social media platforms with such nuisance of theirs. On the other hand, even colleagues who never cared while their sick members were down will be among the first to post RIP on social media and sew burial clothes. SHAME!!!
