Veteran Nollywood actor, Tony Umez, is one of the actors from this part of the world whom the people have come to love with all their hearts. Not just only about his movies or his acting prowess, but equally for his off the screen lifestyles as well. He’s one of the coolest dude the Nigerian movie industry has produced over time. So, today, we shall take a look at some of the strange and equally interesting things you may not have known about this unique actor, who has chosen to be different from others.
First of all, do you know that Tonero Angel as he’s fondly called, is from Ogidi, Anambra State? A core South Eastern and Igbo state, yet this handsome actor cannot speak the Igbo language fluently. Yes, it is a fact! Though his father is from Ogidi in Anambra State but his mother is from Cross River State, and while he struggles with speaking his father’s language, Wikipedia reports that Tony speaks his mum’s language, Efik fluently. Surprised? I know you will, lol!
Secondly, do you know that this cool dude at a point left Nollywood because he felt he was just being used by producers? The story is that when he joined Nollywood in 1993, the actor had high hopes of making a living from his acting career, but all that was soon changed after starring in just two movies, as he left the industry he did not get a dime for his roles in the first two movies he featured in.
He stayed away from the industry for years, only to return to Nollywood again in 1997, and was immediately casted in the movie “The Princess”, and also in “Died Wretched” released in 1889, which was actually the movie that shot him into limelight.
Thirdly, do you know that this cool Nollywood super star has only female children; Angel Umez, Princess Umez, Beautiful Umez, Golden Michelle Umez, and he never jokes with any of his girl child. He flaunts them on his social media platforms at every given opportunity, which has expectedly attracted lots of praises and admiration from thousands of people.
On the other hand, 59 year old Tony Umez has been happily married for over three decades now. Do you know that back in August of 2023, him and his lovely wife celebrated their thirty (30) years of their traditional marriage.
Tonero Angel has equally stayed away from controversies associated with his colleagues, both in the movie and entertainment industry. In fact, just like he handles his family in such a lovely manner in most of his movies, is the way he has actually managed his family in reality.
Frankly, Tony Umez is practically what you will refer to as a “perfect gentleman”, and his family are truly lucky to have such a man as a son, husband, father, uncle and more.
