There’s a good for Nigerians seeking to relocate abroad (Japa), as the German government has launched an online portal for people to apply for an opportunity card for those with skilled career to live and work in the country.

According to the information on the portal, this opportunity card is valid for about one year, and can be renewed once the individual finds a qualified employment in the country. This enables the beneficiary to obtain a resident permit for further job seeking and employment opportunity.

HOW TO APPLY: For the opportunity card beneficiary, you must have obtained your professional skilled qualifications which is recognized either in Germany or in your country of origin.

You have to prove financial self-sufficiency, usually with about one thousand twenty seven Euros (€1,027) per month. This is either shown in your blocked account or other acceptable means.

While in Germany, opportunity card holders are permitted to work part time job of up to 20 hours in a week, and equally engage in trial jobs about 14 days, this is to evaluate potential employment.

ELIGIBILITY/CRITERIA: The opportunity card operates on a points based system, which includes that you must completed a degree or at least two years training in any field, provided the skill or training is recognized by the state of issuance.

You must be proficient in speaking German language at least at level A1 or the English language, at level B2 of Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

It is important that you prove that you are sufficient financially, at least to cover cost of living for the time of your stay in Germany.

For Nigerians seeking to benefit from this golden opportunity, they must visit the German diplomatic missions in Nigeria (otherwise known as the German Embassy in Nigeria) for visa applications and other important processes.
