Enugu State Government Set to Give Mr. Ibu and Junior Pope a Befitting Burial.

Ibu will be buried on June 28, while the burial date for Junior Pope is yet to be fixed…

The Enugu state government has revealed its plans to be part of the burial of deceased Nollywood actors, Obumneme Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope and Mr. John Okafor, mostly known as Mr. Ibu.

This was made known on Friday April 19, 2024, by the state’s commissioner of Information and Communication, Mr. Aka Eze Aka, who’s equally a veteran broadcaster and entertainer. This was made known during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Enugu state.

The government stated that the death of both actors is such a terrible blow to the state and entire nation. Further making it clear that it hesitated in reacting to the death of Junior Pope at first, based on the circumstances surrounding the story, of which it wasn’t clear at first what was happening. That some story said he was alive, some said he woke up, some said he was to be buried at the River side.

He equally revealed that the government opened a condolence register for people to come and condole with the family of Junior Pope.

In his words, “We opened a state register because his death was a national calamity and a tragic event that shocked the whole nation.

We felt that there are so many fans who would like to express themselves by saying one or two things about him and we opened a condolence register to allow them do that. The government does not celebrate death but when it happened, we do the needful”.

On the other hand, Mr. Aka Eze Aka revealed also that he’s part of the burial committee of Mr. Ibu, and as such, in the best place to be communicating the governor directly on what is needed for them to give the actors befitting burial ceremonies.

Recall that Mr. Ibu who hailed Amurri in Nkanu West Local Government Area of the state died on March 2, 2024, after a protracted illness, including battling stroke, diabetes and kidney failure. Junior Pope on the other hand who hails from Ukehe, Igbo-Etiti Council Area of the State died on April 10, 2024, along others in a boat accident in River Niger. It occurred while they were reportedly returning from movie location.
