It really hurts when I see someone gradually descending the abyss of death and people are trying so hard to cover it up, either for a genuine reason or for a hidden motive. And why am I on this this Thursday morning? This is simply because the condition I saw veteran Nollywood actor, Hank Anuku, is not giving me joy in any way. I was almost shedding tears while I watched the viral video of the actor at a fuel station in Asaba, Delta State, obviously goofing around while people made caricature of him.
This is not the first time a video of the actor in such a disturbing state of life has surfaced online. The other time, about a year ago or so, it was his colleagues that came out to debunk the story that the actor was mentally sick. Particularly, it was veteran Nollywood actress, Shan George, who quickly came out and claimed that the actor was okay, that he was on a movie set in same Asaba, and that was how that matter eventually went away. Meanwhile, Hank Anuku is not the first Nollywood actor captured under same disturbing state of life, we have had many of such in the past, including that of popular actor known as Aguba.
Now, my question is, with this video trending across social media platforms, is Hank Anuku still on a movie set/location this time also? If no, does it mean that this young man does not have family, especially his wife, siblings? Does he not have friends, particularly within Nollywood? What about the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria, AGN? Yes, because I can’t really figure out why such a senior member/personality of AGN should be allowed to descend to this level of life and equally constituting this embarrassing public nuisance. Because these people cannot tell me that they are not aware of his condition and general state of life, yet they have decided to feign deaf ears and blind eyes to his condition.
On the other hand, I’m blaming his family the most in all of this, especially his wife who obviously enjoyed with him while the weather was still sunny and the harvest bountiful. How on earth does she feel seeing the father of her children go through this? Probably she’s living in the house he must have built from his earnings as a booming actor, and some other things she would be enjoying in same regards. But the man who worked his ass out for all these is now living like an outcast and she’s not bothered, living her life like nothing is wrong anywhere!
Forget about his present condition, Hank Anuku doesn’t look like one who’s being cared for by his family. I have seen a lot of his videos in recent times, and no one can tell me otherwise. In fact, who knows, this young man might be going through a lot as a result of the sort of treatments he’s getting from his family, and we will be here putting the blames on something that is completely innocent.
His friends and AGN too have all failed him, woefully and shamefully! Yes, most especially his friends, because when the money was plenty you guys and so called friends suffocated him with all sorts of sweet and deceitful names, just to continue benefiting from his money and goodies. So what is happening now? Just because his weather has become cloudy and windy, you have decided that it’s time to disconnect from him. Do you have any atom of conscience left in you at all?
Meanwhile I don’t even understand what’s the essence of the existence of the so called Actors’ Guild of Nigeria, AGN, because they really don’t care about the welfare of their members, and you can only see them put up an eye service caring when the matter has gone viral and the public is hitting them hard with criticism. But once the matter is still obscure, you will see nothing from them.
And severally, I have advised this body to set up a working and comprehensive healthcare insurance package/policy for its members, for a time like this. But will they listen? No! They are only interested in going to burial ceremony of their deceased members to take photos and form movie stars. Following politicians up and down, licking their nyash just so they will give you some money. If not, tell me what other thing you guys are really good at?
The world is moving ahead, Nollywood should equally move along with the world, bring innovative ideas and changes into this industry. Nollywood is no longer a backyard business, it has gone global, as such, global ideas and changes should equally be introduced into the industry. Nollywood should stop this individualistic race they have been running all these years, for once play this game as a team, and see the results you will achieve in the end.
Whether we believe it or not, the fact remains that the world is an inter-dependent entity, as such, we cannot afford not depending on one another for some things, be it for help, companionship, guidance, advice, etc. As such, do away with that ungodly and inhumane mindset that, “while he was earning the huge amount from his acting career, what did he do with that money?”. Do away with that kind of thinking or mindset, because nobody knows tomorrow and whose turn it will be next.
Do not be deceived, that you have acquired all the money you want, as such, you are capable of facing your problems squarely. Well, in as much as we do not pray for such to happen to our life, but have it at the back of your mind that just one singular health challenge is enough to finish all that money/asset you think is already enough for any problem you may face in life.
So, i urge everyone close to Hank Anuku to immediately come to his help, do your best, especially now that he’s still alive. Not when he has departed the world you will be posting all sorts of useless tributes on every social media platforms, donating millions for his candle light procession, burial ceremony- God forbid!
