EFCC Chairman Disclose What To Do With A 17-Year-Old Boy Who Hacked His BVN & Bank Account Details

In the face of the rising cases of Cyber Crimes across the country, the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Olukayode has disclosed how a certain teenage boy hacked into his bank account details and BVN.

According to Pulse, the EFCC chairman stated that this boy could be transformed into a national asset, helping the security agents in cracking down on criminal syndicates, with proper guidance and re-orientation.

On a video sighted by Pulse, the EFCC chairman disclosed this while briefing stakeholders on Thursday May 2, 2024. Equally revealing that this said 17 year old boy was eventually nabbed by the anti graft agency, brought to his office for interrogations and questioning, and was shocked at the level of IT skills in the boy.

In his exact words, the EFCC chairman said, “in my Lagos office, I brought in a 17-year-old boy who is studying history 200 level. He’s not doing anything science. The guy sat in my office in Lagos and demonstrated some things to me on my laptop”.

InThen he further revealed how the boy demanded for his mobile number, and used it to get his BVN, and that shocked him to the bones, especially for the fact that the said boy was not a science student at any point.

“He asked for my number (mobile number), through my number he got my BVN. He now mentioned the name of my account number to me and the bank and I didn’t tell him anything,” he added.

Meanwhile, several reports has it that so far, several banks in the country has suffered painful financial loses in the hands of internet fraudsters, amounting to the sum of Eight Billion Naira (₦8,000,000,000). On the other hand, the country generally loses about five hundred million dollars ($500,000,000) to cybercrimes.

Though the finding was conducted by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for 2022 released by the EFCC.
