Doyin Okupe has waded into the lingering high cost of food items currently being experienced across the country.
His particular interest is on the soaring cost of tomatoes, of which a painter of tomatoes sells between 7-10 thousand depending on the part of the country.
According to Okupe who is offering politically motivated solution to the economic situation, urged Nigerians to grow tomatoes in their various homes, using sacks, as he equally shared a video on how it should be done.
“A medium size basket of tomatoes (containing between 60 to 80 fruits) cost about N45k in the market today. Use sacks to grow tomatoes at home, easy and inexpensive,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, Reno Omokri had earlier in a similar social media post urged Nigerians to stop blaming and insulting the government and rather find a lasting solution to their problems.
According to him, if the cost of eggs is too high for you to afford, then you should get a hen, feed it corn and everyday it will lay eggs for you. On the other hand, he urged Nigerians to equally plant vegetables, pepper and tomatoes at their back yard and it will grow.
He gave the statistics of both the British and American people involved in this to be 54% and 51% respectively, citing that if we do it here that we won’t die.
Both comments from Doyin Okupe and Reno Omokri sparked mixed reactions, with many people questioning them, since it is now planting what you need coz of the cost in the market then what about the price of fuel, cooking gas, building materials, medicine, etc? It then means people should begin to build refineries, etc, to produce the fuel they need and otherwise?
This is why both comments from the duo best fits into the category of a “politically motivated solution”. Instead of looking into the root cause of the issue, they are looking to drive Nigerians through the shortcut as usual, while the problem remain unresolved, even remaining there for years to come.
