A certain Nigerian woman who’s reportedly based outside the country has stirred up serious conversations online, following her recently held traditional marriage as she got married to her white lover/partner. She shared photos of the marriage ceremony via her social media platform, revealing also that the said event was held virtually.
The Imo state born woman in her post was full of appreciation for all those who made this rare event a success, particular her people of Ezeani and Umuezeonyima in Imo state, and some others. “Thank God it was a successful traditional marriage. Online wedding sweet small,” part of her post reads.
Besides the expected reactions such will trigger, many are of the opinion that such is a desecration of the the cultural heritages and values of her people, of which people have allowed the modern world to erode such important values of the African people, particular the Igbo race.
While they blamed her kinsmen for approving such, some others equally argued that in Igbo land, that even bride price are paid in the absent of either the girl or both the bride and groom. That the Igbo culture and tradition permits such, as long as the family of the woman are in consent with the idea.
Though truth be told, we have seen some of these marriage rites performed in absentia, and everyone is comfortable with it. But maybe this one involved visuals hence why it has become strange to some people.
