First class Nigerian publisher, politician and business enthusiast, Chief Dele Momodu has often been said to have the same financial lifestyle just like former Anambra state Governor, Mr. Peter Obi; they are not good at lavish spending.

While many may not know why Dele Momodu chose that lifestyle, the founder and publisher of Ovation Magazine has come out to reveal why he stopped gifting money to people.

According to him, he is one type of person who has such a large heart, which made people to keep coming to him for a helping hand, but he stopped doing that when something happened one day, and he made his mind to stop.

He said someone came to him for help, to give him money to roof his new house under construction. Unfortunately, himself was still living in a rented apartment, and not yet building his own house. That singular incident instantly killed the spirit of giving in him.

In his exact words, “people were always asking me for money, and I was helping them until one day that someone asked me to give him money to roof his house, and I don’t have a house.

I am still renting…that was when my head popped open, and I realized I wasn’t wise.

That was why I said last year that I am a man of modest means and that people should stop asking me for money. So I stopped and decided to take care of myself“.

Then he added a quote from late Chief MKO Abiola, who himself was a well known philanthropist across Africa. He quoted Abiola saying that no one should attempt loving his or her neighbour more than one loves himself. That you should take care of yourself before helping others.

MKO Abiola said, Love thy neighbor not more than yourself but as yourself.” So take care of yourself first before you help anyone,” he concluded.
