Seven (7) Major Trophies That Has Shaped Spain As The Best Sporting Nation Of The World in 2024.

The sports Ministry in Spain must have had their head so high with an overwhelming sense of joy and pride as they continue to conquer the world at all phase of the 2024 global sporting activities.

Meanwhile, on Friday evening of August 9, 2024, Spain once again added yet another big sporting achievement (trophy) to their already saturated trophy cabin of the year. We have reached the middle of the year in question, but their trophy bag is almost full.

Now let’s take a look at the seven (7) major trophies Spain has won this year that has placed them at the lofty height as the “Best Sporting Nation” in 2024.

SPORTS ACHIEVEMENTS OF 2024:

FOOTBALL:

2024 UEFA European Championship: The Spanish male national team had in July this year defeated England in Germany to lift the tournament golden trophy.

With goals from Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal, they were able to triumph 2-1 against Southgate’s English national team, rendering them without a single major trophy in decades, precisely 58 years without a major international trophy for the Three Lions.

In the same tournament, Spanish players clinched respective individual awards. Lamine Yamal was named Young Player of the tournament, and equally beating great Pele of Brazil’s age long record to become the youngest player to ever start in the final of either Euros or World Cup tournament.

Also, City’s Rodri, even though was forced out midway through the first half during the final was eventually named player of the tournament, while Dani Olmo was among the six (6) players at the tournament to win the golden boot award with three goals each.

2024 Paris Olympics: The Spanish male team were once again brutal at the 2024 Olympics tournament ongoing in Paris France. They crushed Thierry Henry’s France team 5-3 to lift the tournament’s golden trophy once again.

U-19 EURO 2024 champions: In July 2024, the Spanish under-19 male team were crowned champions of the UEFA European Under-19 championship after defeating France 2-0.

The tournament which was hosted by Northern Ireland was Spain’s 12th trophy under that category.

U-19 Women’s EURO 2024 champions: The Spanish under-19 on July 27 this year defeated the Netherlands 2-1 to win the tournament which was hosted by Lithuania. This was their 6th trophies of the tournament.

U-21 EURO 2023 Finalists: at the 24th edition of the biennial international youth tournament hosted by UEFA for European under 21 male football players, the Spanish team narrowly escaped winning the golden trophy which they lost 0-1 to England.

TENNIS:

On Sunday July 14, Spanish tennis sensation, 21 year old Carlos Alcaraz stunned the world when he won the highly coveted Wimbledon title.

He defeated British number one, Novak Djokovic to clinch his 4th Grand Slam and his second Wimbledon title. He held on following a late fight back from Novak Djokovic to eventually emerge champions with a result of 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4).

GOLF:

In July 2024, during the LIV Golf’s Young History (LIV representing the Roman Numerals for 54), Spanish captain Sergio Garcia rallied from seven strokes down to eventually emerge winner and being his first ever LIV Golf individual title.

He defeated Anirban Lahiri of the Crushers to win his first ever LIV Golf individual trophy. Which he did on the second sudden death playoff holes.

On the other hand, his fellow Fireballs GC teammates, David Puig and Abraham Ancer crushed the Crushers team members of Paul Casey and Bryson DeChambeau (team captain) in the team aggregate score playoffs.

As such, three Spanish golfers swept all two trophies at the Real Club Valderrama competition.

OTHERS:

In the same year in review, Real Madrid of Spain won the 2023/2024 UEFA Champions League after defeating Germany’s Borussia Dortmund 2-0.

In the same season, Barcelona women team won the female version of the Champions League. Recall that the Spanish women’s senior team had won the Women’s World Cup in 2023.

Indeed, the 2024 sporting year actually belongs to Spain. Give them their flowers without any further hesitation.
