Today we received the sad news of the unfortunate death of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, and it was indeed a heartbreaking one for everyone who knew him, including family members, friends and business associates.
Several persons have been mourning the oil mogul, including Peter Obi, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Governor Peter Mbah, Obi Cubana, Cubana Chiefpriest, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, Governor Charles Soludo, and others.
While many people have different opinions, views, impression about the deceased, we have decided to take a look at some of his life’s stories, encounters, legacies, achievements and other things he was known for while he was on earth for about 53 years.
1) Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah was born in Otolo Nnewi, Anambra state on September 3, 1971. He was a highly successful Nigerian businessman, entrepreneur and politician.
2) Due to his poor family background, Ifeanyi Ubah dropped out of school and opted to go learn a trade. Later, he became an importer of motor tyres and spare parts, covering countries like Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Dr Congo, before expanding into European countries like United Kingdom, Belgium and some others.
3) In 2001, he ventured into oil business and founded the famous capital oil and gas limited. Which has one of the largest tank farm for oil storage facilities.
4) He was also the owner and founder of The Authority Newspaper. He was equally the owner of Ifeanyi Ubah United, a football club in the Nigerian Premier League, this was after he purchased Gabros FC of Nnewi and renamed it Ifeanyi Ubah United FC.
5) He later joined politics and contested for Anambra state governorship position in 2014 under Labour Party and lost. Though he never stopped eyeing the number one political seat in the state as he already declared intention to run for Anambra gubernatorial election come 2025 under APC.
6) In 2019 he ran for another election, this time to represent Anambra South Senatorial District at the Nigerian Senate. He won under the political party Young Progressives Party, YPP. Though he later defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
7) In September 2022, Ifeanyi Ubah escaped assassination attempt on his life following an attack on his convoy by unknown gunmen in Enugwu-Ukwu in Anambra State.
About five persons including two police officers were killed in the attack. Though the senator survived the attack because he was riding in a bulletproof car.
8) He is married to Uchenna Uba, who is a graduate business administration from the famous Ahmadu Bello University. Their marriage is already blessed with five (5) children.
9) The late Anambra born Senator Has a foundation named after himself; Ifeanyi Ubah Foundation. Through which he has been able to help a lot of indigent Nigerians, including students on scholarship, and many others who have benefited from him in different ways.
10) During the arrest and extradition of IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu during the regime of former President Buhari, Ifeanyi Ubah was accused to have a hand in the predicament of the IPOB leader.
Though he had since came out to distance himself from either the arrest or extradition of the IPOB leader, making extensive narration on how he has fought for Kanu’s release during his first detention. Also, how he has championed the Igbo agenda and progress.
Unfortunately, this great man died today July 27, 2024. Though no official statement from the immediate family, but it was reported that he died in a London hospital following a cardiac arrest. He was said to be in London for a surgery.
